Water and Environmental Engineering

Water and Environmental Services

At Avvy Group's we have a portfolio of ready-made solutions for the growing demands for the cleaner, cost effective and energy efficient water environmental market encompassing Wastewater Management, Water Technology Solutions, Wastewater Treatment Processes and SUDS (Surface Water Management). This is enhanced by an active approach to innovation and manufacture of new solutions from the Avvy design and engineering teams

Water Management Systems

Clean Water

Avvy has developed a portfolio of solutions for the Clean Water industry. This includes Raw Water Intake Screens, based on the Avvy's patented wedge wire technology combined with a patent pending dual action screen purging system, developed at the Hydrok R&D facility at their UK manufacturing base.

Waste Water

Avvy continually develop their portfolio of solutions available to engineers within the UK wastewater industry. As a key supplier for storm water overflow screening technology, the company is firmly positioned within the management of wastewater, particularly focusing on Storm Water control and treatment.

Wastewater Treatment Processes

Our water treatment solutions range from membrane filtration systems to treat and desalinate water and media filtration and clarification systems to UV and ozone systems to disinfect water and analytical instruments to measure, monitor and test the quality of water.

Our wastewater treatment solutions include Xylem pumps to move wastewater and advanced mixer, aeration, sequence batch reactor and membrane bioreactor systems to ozone and ultraviolet disinfection systems, media filtration, tertiary treatment and more to treat wastewater.

Biological Treatment Solutions

Breaking down and removing contaminants through our advanced aeration, sequence batch reactors and membrane bioreactor systems.

Desalination Solutions

Removing dissolved solids and contaminants from various sources of water including seas, oceans, brackish resources and fresh water intended for high purity applications and wastewater intended for reuse.

Filtration & Clarification Solutions

Treating, filtering and clarifying water through a wide array of media filtration techniques, membrane systems, treatment solutions and more.

Ultraviolet & Ozone Disinfection Solutions

Using our ozone and ultraviolet disinfection systems to protect the environment by disinfecting water and making it safe for use before returning it to nature.

Water Technology - SCADA

The acronym SCADA stands for Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition. The term SCADA system can be used to describe a multitude of computer-based control systems that allow operators and facility personnel to monitor and control a facility's equipment either locally or remotely. Typically, a SCADA system will automate much of the control process such that plant operators can focus on other task. The systems we design give the operator flexibility to manually control the equipment where desired. SCADA systems are also installed to collect and store information for reporting, troubleshooting, maintenance indications, and much more.

There are a number of advantages to having a SCADA system installed such as:

  • Ability to significantly reduce operating costs, while improving system performance and reliability
  • Costly after-hours alarm call-outs can often be avoided since a SCADA system will indicate the nature and degree of a problem
  • Since data is continuously recorded, operators do not have to manually read and record meter readings on a daily basis.
  • Operators do not have to keep track of hundreds of log sheets as any data recorded on the SCADA system can be downloaded and accessed at their convenience.
  • SCADA systems can often be accessed remotely through an internet connect on your office computer or laptop, and even your cell phone or tablet.

SCADA systems can range from the very basic to the extremely complex. A well designed SCADA system can make the most complex configuration both user friendly and easy to maintain.

Surface Water Management (SUDS)

Sustainable urban drainage systems (commonly known as SUDS) offer an alternative approach to traditional drainage. SUDS employ a suite of techniques to effectively manage drainage at source, all of which aim to detain run-off and release it slowly into watercourses or to ground. Source control techniques are also increasingly popular - such as the use of porous (as opposed to impermeable) paving and 'green roofs'.

Traditional drainage practice is designed to move rainwater as rapidly as possible from the point at which it has fallen to a discharge point, at a watercourse.

The use of SUDS to reduce levels of diffuse pollution and flooding is rapidly becoming more widespread in the UK as local authorities see the benefits for water quality and flood management. SUDS provide an integrated approach to surface water design problems, which consider quality, quantity and amenity aspects equally.

Avvy Group is committed to offer engineers a suite of integrated solutions for water control and storage systems engineered to provide the total solution "Treatment Train" from screening and filtration of surface water to the storage and control of flows back into the water course. The Water Framework Directive (2000/60/EC) provides a framework for the protection, improvement and sustainable use of all water bodies within the environment, from source to sea. The aim of the directive is to protect and improve the water environment, which includes the prevention of deterioration of aquatic ecosystems where possible, restoring the quality of ground and surface waters damaged by pollution, water abstraction and engineering activities.
